Wonky whimsical weird wacky slacker funky and fun....
Those are the words of Washington Post writer Blake Gopnik
who says that this post's title is what the art world wants
today.(Washington Post 3/1/09 "Clay's Big Day")
It's great to know that if one waits long enough then one
once again becomes the standard by which all others are judged.
It is safe to say that Mr. Gopnik's words describe my own work
with the exception of the term "slacker". Recent shows at the
New Museum in New York and the University of Pennsylvania's
Institute of Contemporary Art, reinforce this thought, especially
with the current exhibition, "Dirt on Delight: Impulses That Form Clay".
It's so nice to hear that one's signature style, is, after years of
challenge, back in vogue with a vengeance...

"IDLE WORSHIP" INSTALLATION, SIDE STREET PROJECT: PASADENA, CA
A ceramic fire hydrant, created by John Aaron
at the Armory Center, from his notorious
"Public Art for Dogs" series, is surrounded by
dozens of small ceramic dogs made by young
artists of all ages who showed up on Jan. 17
to make as many imaginative clay canines as
they could. You see the result!
They appear as though they are all seeking the
"Holy Grail." Or else they're just really thirsty!
It is on display at Side Street Projects,
Fair Oaks Ave.
